Helen Margaret Rasmussen, 97, of Clarissa, passed away on February 6, 2018. Funeral services for Helen will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa with Pastor Kali Christensen officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Woodman Cemetery, Clarissa.
Helen was born April 26, 1920, in Parkers Prairie to Ralph & Alice (Murray) Brandborg. She graduated from the Eagle Bend High School in 1938 and attended St. Cloud State University earning her teaching degree. Helen taught country school for three years before returning home to care for her mother. On December 1, 1945, Helen married Harold Rasmussen in Minneapolis. They made their home in Clarissa in 1947 and farmed together until 1969. Helen was a substitute teacher in Eagle Bend and Clarissa schools for many years, including work as a teacher’s aide under the Title Program. She also contributed as a writer to the Clarissa Independent. Helen was a lifelong member of the Clarissa United Methodist Church; she belonged to the Homemakers Club, Royal Neighbors, Clarissa Senior Center and the Methodist Women. She was an avid reader and was always ready for a game of cards. She enjoyed gardening, sunshine and birds. Helen was a devoted friend, caregiver and loved dearly by her family and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; brothers: Ralph Brandborg and Charles Brandborg; sons: Rick in 1998 and Bill in 2005.
Helen is survived by her grandchildren: Kate (Bryan) Blessing of Bloomington, Kellen Rasmussen (Brianna Walrath) of St. Cloud; great grandchildren: Evelyn and Julia Blessing of Bloomington; daughters-in-law: Chris Rasmussen and Mitzi Rasmussen of Sauk Rapids and a niece and two nephews.
