Shirley Conley, 95, of Alexandria (formerly of Long Prairie and Browerville) passed away on September 8, 2017. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville with Pastor Del Moen officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Browerville.
Shirley was born March 7, 1922 in Leslie Township, Todd County, to Bernard & Mabel (Bergstrom) Fearing. She attended country school through the 8th grade in District 119. On February 27, 1940 Shirley married Clinton Conley. They lived in the Rose City area for 2 ½ years, then made their home in Browerville. After Clinton’s death in 1971 Shirley worked at Land-o-Lakes in Browerville for several years. On July 13, 1974 Shirley married Gordon Okerlund. Shirley moved to Long Prairie in 1996 and later moved to Alexandria. Shirley was a member of the Red Hats, Homemakers, Card Club and a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. Shirley’s hobbies included: quilting, traveling, refinishing furniture, macramé, gardening and cooking. She always said “I’m not the greatest but I love trying to cook!”
Shirley is survived by her children: Ron Conley of Long Prairie, Sandy (Wayne) Rients of Shakopee, Coleen (Keith) Hoeschen of Alexandria, Carmen (Jim) Schmidt of Champlain, Scott (Cindy) Conley of East Wenatchee, WA, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Clinton in 1971, grandson Patrick Conley, grandson Troy Conley, great grandson Cody Naill and siblings: Hazel Sursely, Albert Fearing, Claude Fearing, Mary Hendricks, Howard Fearing, Bernice Rothenberg, Opal Fearing, Everette Fearing, Melvin Fearing, Ardell Fearing and daughter-in-law, Sallie Durand.
