Herman Haugen was born in Greenbush, MN to Herman and Mabel (Kellberg) Haugen on July 15, 1934 and passed away on January 21, 2019. He grew up in Portland and Cooperstown, ND, learning the creamery business from his father. He attended Interstate Business College and worked in the dairy business in IA, MN and ND. He went on to establish Country Boy Dairy in Jamestown, ND and Haugen’s Ice Cream Parlours in Jamestown, Fargo, Fergus Falls and Wahpeton. He relocated to Sanibel/Ft. Myers, FL for 23 years where he managed commercial real estate for World Plaza. He retired due to health problems and returned to ND and MN to be closer to family. Herman was active on the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department and Trinity Lutheran Church Board, National Ice Cream Assn., Lion’s Club, JC’s and the El Zagal Shrine, Fargo. He was an avid gardener with tremendous success.
He is survived by his brothers Lyle and Evon, children he shared with his first wife, Elizabeth Skjolden Slen: Peter (Mary) Haugen, Long Prairie, MN, Christine Claflin, Burnsville, MN, Susan (Doug) Kleingartner, Fargo, ND, Mary (Philip) Baehr, Burnsville, MN. He will be missed by his 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marian and sister Gwendolyn Gilbertson. Funeral services will be private and memorials May be made to donor’s choice.
