Thomas “Hans” Iten, 87 of Browerville died Sunday March 17, 2019 at Centra Care Meadow Place in Long Prairie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Christ the King Catholic Church; burial will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 pm at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville and one hour prior to the service at the church. Rosary will be at 4:45 pm and parish prayers at 7:30 pm.
Hans was born March 6, 1932 to Thomas and Mary (Mishlish) Iten in Browerville. He graduated from Browerville High School in 1950 and in November, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Hans was honorably discharged August 2nd, 1954 and returned home to work at Plotnick’s Meat Market. He later worked at the Iten & Heid Hardware and Funeral Home. In 1963, Hans and his brother, Jerry purchased the business from their dad and uncles.
He served as mayor of Browerville for two terms and was a past president of the Browerville Commercial Club. Hans was also on the Vets Club Board, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 293, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member Browerville Volunteer Fire Department.
Hans enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching the Twins and Vikings, going on elk hunting trips with his friends and especially watching his grandsons play sports. He is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Mary, brother Jerry, brothers-in-law, Gerard (Lucille) Koval, Paul Koval and sister-in-law Joan (Ron) Wolter.
Hans is survived by his wife, Dee, children Amy (Ric) Kotula, Mike (Heidi) Iten, Anne Wegscheider, grandchildren, Triton and Colton Wegscheider, Jacob, Noah and Lucas Iten, Jessica Reynolds, Jennifer (Chad) Meemken, Jason (Carina) Johnson, Jeremy Williams and Jordan Gorder; great grandchildren, Mason and Marit Reynolds, Amelia and Stella Meemken, Abrahm Williams; brother Joe (Rosie) Iten, sisters-in-law: Marge Iten, Bernie (Harold) Hukriede, Kay Koval and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
