Leighton Abrahamson, 89, of Browerville, passed away on December 11, 2017. Funeral services for Leighton will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in Browerville. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Browerville.
Leighton was born August 25, 1928, in Little Elk Township, Todd County, to Alvin & Alma (Solem) Abrahamson. He married Sophie Spandl on September 15, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church.
Leighton led a simple, but full and admirable life. He lived his entire adult life in a house no more than a quarter mile from the home in which he was born, and he will be buried less than a mile from there. He built with his own hands the home that he and his wife shared, mostly from lumber that he milled from trees that he had cut himself. The same holds true of the barn and other outbuildings in which he earned his living.
Leighton was a proud man, in the very best sense of that word. He was proud of his deep and direct faith, proud of his work ethic and his accomplishments and proud of his service as Little Elk Township clerk for several decades and was also he fire ward for 43 years. He was even more proud of his loving and enduring marriage of sixty-nine years and proudest yet of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leighton will be missed by his wife, Sophie, his sons Arnold (Joan) and Stanley (Debby), his daughter, Karen (Jonathan), nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, extended family and the Little Elk community.
Leighton is preceded in death by his parents; son Mark and siblings: David, Sonja and Ieleen.
