Donald Michael Ahrens, 86, of Sauk Centre (formerly of Eagle Bend) passed away on October 15, 2018. Funeral services for Donald will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, 12:00 p.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Church in Clarissa with Pastor Kali Christensen officiating. Friends may call on the day of the funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Interment will be held at Woodman Cemetery, Clarissa.
Donald was born at home on July 24, 1932, in Kandota Township, Todd County, to Michael H & Lillian L (Kortan) Ahrens. He graduated from the Eagle Bend High School. After graduation, Donald served in the US Army from March 12, 1953 until April 7, 1955. On June 25, 1955, Donald married Crystal L Kaemmer at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa. They lived in Minneapolis from 1955 until 1959. During this time Donald worked for Minneapolis-Moline and General Mills. In 1959, they bought a farm in Burleene Township, Todd County and lived there until March 2016 when they sold the farm and moved to Sauk Centre. On August 28, 2018, Donald moved to the Community Nursing Home in Osakis.
Donald worked as a dairy farmer; after selling the cows in 1996 he continued crop farming and also worked at the Rose Co-op Creamery in Rose City from 1996-2007 and Pete’s County Market in Alexandria from 2007-2010.
Donald enjoyed being a farmer (playing in the dirt) and especially baby animals. Other endeavors he enjoyed were card playing, dancing and travel. Donald was a life member of the VFW Post 6318 and the American Legion Frederick E Cossentine Post 280; serving as the Commander, Vice Commander, Finance Office and Chaplain.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Henry, father & mother-in-law, sister-in-law Viola and husband Kennent Johnson and their daughter Lorraine, brothers-in-law Donald Hoosline and Don Leagjeld, nephews, great nephews and great niece.
Donald is survived by his wife Crystal; children: Sharon (friend Paul), Dale (Sheila); grandchildren: Leah Bolin (husband Alex Knutson), Sarah Bolin; siblings: Henry (Ardith) Ahrens, Gen (Bob) Thieschafer, Bertha Leagjeld, Linda (Chris) Carlson, brother-in-law Jordan Henry and many other relatives and friends.
