Nancy Jane (Haverland) Hoefs age 82, formerly of Sebeka, MN, passed away on January 6, 2018 in Staples, MN.
Nancy was the sixth of nine children born to Forest and Eva Haverland on November 3rd, 1935, in a tiny cabin near Mizpah, MN. Raised near the logging community, Nancy and her sister Faith, would roam the woods pretending to be lumberjacks. Nancy loved school, and was so proud to be a part of her graduating class of Northome High school in 1951. She returned to multiple reunions and especially enjoyed driving her “55” Ford wearing her poodle skirt in the parade during their 50th reunion. Nancy loved music and dance, and enjoyed both while helping to run her parents Tavern while growing up. It was there that she met Orie Hoefs, the man who would become her husband for the next 60 years. With their combined skills of carpentry, landscaping and gardening, together they shared a love of making beautiful homes, inside and out, for their four sons. Orie’s job took them to Fairmount, ND, Valley City, ND and to Cannon Falls, MN where Nancy made many of her close friends. In 1975, Orie and Nancy built their dream home out in the countryside of Sebeka, MN. There they ran their own woodworking business, “Memories”. Covered in saw dust and varnish, working together they sold thousands of oak plate holders across the nation. Nancy was an energetic, lively and spirited “little” woman. She had a variety of passions which included gardening, learning about Native American Heritage and going to auctions “antiquing”. Always dressed to the nines, and up for a dance, her grandchildren have many fond memories of their stylin’ grandma teaching them to do “the twist” as music blared from her juke box. She loved being a mother and wife, and cared for her husband, children and grandchildren with sincere devotion. Holidays were full of fun décor and homemade dishes, buns & famous sweet pickles. She always had a pet running around to cuddle, whether it was her rescued raccoon, or giant St. Bernard.
Nancy is survived by her children Tad (LuAnn) Hoefs of Browerville, MN; Jamie (Becky) Hoefs of Sebeka, MN; Dana (Mikki) Hoefs of Milaca, MN; Corey (Tonia) of Deer Creek, MN; Sister Louella Owen of Chicago, IL; & Brothers Larry Haverland of Bemidji, MN; & Gary Haverland

Orrin (Orie) Alvin Hoefs, age 81, formerly of Sebeka, MN, passed away on July 7, 2016 in Staples, MN.
Orie was born Janurary 17, 1935 to Gilbert and Laura Hoefs in Fairmount, North Dakota. He attended Fairmount School where he graduated in 1953 as a proud member of the Fairmount Pheasants. Orie started working for Herbison Bridge Company in the summer of 1953 and continued working there for the next 30 years. The company Orie worked for had a project in Margie, MN in the summer of 1955, and he met a pretty girl named Nancy Haverland there and asked her out on a date. Orie loved to drive his new 1955 Chevy fast, and on his date with Nancy he swerved to miss a deer while doing 80 mph on Highway 71 near Margie, MN. Needless to say, the car went into a skid and then rolled several times. Unlike the car, Orie and Nancy survived, and decided to get married. To this union 4 boys were born.
Orie worked his way up the ladder in Herbison Bridge Company and became the general superintendent and was instrumental in helping build the 494 and 694 beltway through the Twin Cities in the 1960’s, while raising a family with his wife Nancy in Cannon Falls, MN. In 1975 they moved to rural Sebeka, and built their dream house. Orie was a skilled and proficient carpenter and in 1986 he started a small wood working business with Nancy called “Memories” in Sebeka, MN where they produced and sold thousands of fine crafted oak products across the nation for the next 20 years. In 2012 Orie and Nancy moved to Browerville, MN.
Orie is survived by his sons: Tad (LuAnn) Hoefs of Browerville, MN; Jamie (Becky) Hoefs of Sebeka, MN; Dana (Mikki) Hoefs, of Milaca, MN; Corey (Tonia) Hoefs of Sebeka, MN. 11 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. Orie was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert & Laura Hoefs; brother Gilbert Jr; and great granddaughter Sophie Hoefs. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
